Am 04.06.2021 hatte Vanessa ihr zweites MRT in Würzburg. Letzte Woche waren wir dann beim Gespräch mit der Ärztin über das Ergebnis. Sehr ausführlich hat sie uns die Unterschiede zwischen der 1. und 2. Aufnahme erklärt. Im Bereich des Kleinhirns ist der Tumor zurück gegangen, im Bereich des Pons ist der Nekroseanteil von 8,5mm auf 11,5mm gewachsen, was ein gutes Zeichen ist, da es sich um angestorbenes Tumormaterial handelt. Es geht also, vorsichtig gesagt, in die richtige Richtung. Die komplette Wirkung der Bestrahlung ist erst im September beim nächsten MRT ersichtlich.

Vanessa macht weiter wie bisher, denn letztendlich kann keiner sagen, was wie gewirkt hat, oder ob es die Kombination aus allem war. Letzte Woche startete die Erhaltungsphase mit der ersten 5-tägigen Einnahme von Temodal. Gestern (12.06.) hat sie das erste Mal das neue Medikament Onc201 eingenommen und es zeigten sich bisher keine Nebenwirkungen. Ein Vergleich von Fotos zeigt auch, dass die Wassereinlagerungen durch das Dexamethason (Cortison) langsam zurückgehen, zumindest im Gesicht und oberen Körperbereich.

Insgesamt sind wir gerade positiv gestimmt, da Vanessa außer das Schielen weiterhin keine weiteren Symptome des Tumors zeigt. Wir hoffen und beten, dass dieser Zustand noch sehr lange so bleibt. Ziel ist es, dass dieses Monster nicht weiter wächst. Und mit allen anderen Einschränkungen, die der Tumor für Vanessa mich sich bringt, werden wir sicher als Familie ein Lösung finden.

Die letzten drei Wochen hat uns der Alltag wieder komplett eingebunden. Vanessa geht stundenweise in die Schule und bereitet sich auf die Schulaufgaben und Abschlussprüfungen vor. Ansonsten sind wir viel im Garten draußen. Die Bucket list wird auch immer länger im kleinen und großen Dingen. Und so versuchen wir jede Woche viele schöne Momente neben Schule und Arbeit einzubauen und Erinnerungen zu sammeln.

Result of the 2nd MRI

On June 4th, 2021 Vanessa had her second MRI in Würzburg. Last week we were talking to the doctor about the result. She explained the differences between the 1st and 2nd recording to us in great detail. In the area of the cerebellum the tumor has receded, in the area of the pons the proportion of necrosis has grown from 8.5 mm to 11.5 mm, which is a good sign, since the tumor material is dead. So things are going in the right direction. The full effect of the radiation can be seen in September during the next MRI.

Vanessa continues as before, because ultimately nobody can say what worked how, or whether it was the combination of everything. The maintenance phase started last week with the first 5-day intake of Temodal. Yesterday (June 12th) she took the new drug Onc201 for the first time and there have been no side effects so far. A comparison of photos also shows that the water retention caused by the dexamethasone (cortisone) is slowly decreasing, at least in the face and upper body area.

All in all, we are currently in a positive mood, as Vanessa continues to show no other symptoms of the tumor apart from the squint. We hope and pray that this state of affairs will remain that way for a very long time. The goal is to stop this monster from growing. And with all the other restrictions that the tumor brings for Vanessa, we as a family will surely find a solution.

For the past three weeks, everyday life has completely integrated us again. Vanessa goes to school for a few hours and prepares for tests at school and the final exams. Otherwise we are out in the garden a lot. The bucket list is getting longer in both small and large things. And so every week we try to incorporate many beautiful moments next to school and work and to collect memories.
